Gluten Free Certification and other facets

Hello, all! I’ve been editing this database for a while now, and learnt some ways to add more and better data along the way. However, some facets of packaging stump me.

For the moment, I’ve been writing some national registry codes, or licences, as packaging codes. I’ll focus this forum topic on one example: the Association of European Coeliac Associates certifications, which you can find on packaging and on their website.

Basically, manufacturers can apply for one such license, and if the product meets their standards for gluten-free products, it gets a certification number like OATS-GB-107-014 or GB-161-001.

All approaches I can find to log this information are flawed:

  • Adding this certification number on the same field where quality brands/seals go (like Green Point, or FSC Mix, or Crossed Grain Trademark) adds junk to the facets taxonomy, and looks confusing. It also doesn’t pair the certification number with the Crossed Grain Trademark (users of the page just have to know what format do gluten-free licences usually follow)
  • Setting this certification number as a traceability code (what I’ve been doing) isn’t technically correct, and isn’t useful because there’s only one product per traceability code. Again, it also doesn’t specify that this certification number is, in fact, an AOECS licence.
  • The folksonomy engine is technically correct, but it’s in beta, hard to read and hard to reach. There’s no consensus on what key to use for this number, and it’s not as convenient as adding translatable facets or nutritional values, anyways.

A good example of this confusion is this ground pepper page, where the gluten-free licence is on the traceability code field, and the ecological agriculture licence is set as both a traceability code and a facet.

Where’s the best place to put these tags right now? And, if there is no good place, is there any plan to change this?
