how to add poliolis quantity in nutrition facts

Hello,

For those who are on keto or low carb diet, and diabethics, they need to know the exact amount of “real carbs” for their diet
Also, polioils, like erithritol or allulose, or xilithol, does not have calories and does not have to be counted

There are many foods outside that contain no-carbs sugar…

I think it should be useful to add a field on the nutrition facts, like in the label of the products:

Carbohydrates: xxxx
Of which sugar: yyyy
Of which poliols: zzzz

Thank you

Hello @Pleppy

Open Food Facts website and mobile app both allow to enter polyols. Just type “polyols” (or maltitol, or any other polyol) in the empty field at the end of the nutrients’ form, and enter your value.

You can find thousands of products with polyols on Open Food Facts, see: https://world.openfoodfacts.org/cgi/search.pl?action=process&nutriment_0=polyols&nutriment_compare_0=gt&nutriment_value_0=0&sort_by=unique_scans_n&page_size=20

You should only fill it if it’s written on the nutrients’ table. Sometimes producers don’t display it in the nutrients’ table, but we consider it’s their mistake.

Often, contributors are not feeding polyols because they don’t know how to do it. We might try to help them do it.

If you want to help, you can fix many errors due to the lack of polyols. When polyols have been forgotten by contributors, this triggers a data quality error, because the energy we compute is different than the one displayed by the producer. If you check this query, you’ll be able to get random products that contain “sugar free” or “sans sucre” in their name, and trigger a data quality error: in general those products lack polyols information, you can add it. Tell me if you need more guidance.

I have created a dedicated page on our wiki: you can also help to complete it: Polyols (Sugar alcohols) - Open Food Facts wiki
